Andrew Hanzlicek, DVM, MS, DACVIM (SAIM):
Clinician Director

Dr. Andrew Hanzlicek brings veterinary internal medicine expertise and an extensive research background in fungal disease diagnostics. He holds a DVM and MS from Kansas State University, completed his residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine there, and spent his early academic career at Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where he has held the Joan Kirkpatrick Chair in Small Animal Internal Medicine. He joined MiraVista in 2020 as Veterinary Medicine Director before advancing to his current role as Clinician Director.
Dr. Hanzlicek’s research program has focused heavily on canine and feline histoplasmosis, including validation studies of Histoplasma antigen immunoassays and long-running work on disease monitoring, relapse, and treatment outcomes in dogs and cats — research that has made extensive use of MiraVista’s fungal biomarker testing. That body of work gives him a clinically grounded, cross-species perspective on fungal disease diagnosis that supports MiraVista’s work in veterinary medicine and its broader mission of clinically meaningful fungal diagnostics.
As Clinician Director, he provides strategic direction and leadership across MiraVista’s clinical programs, coordinating the work of the Medical Director, Medical Liaison, Veterinary Medicine Director, Clinical Laboratory Director, and Clinical Trials team to ensure the delivery of high-quality diagnostic testing services. His responsibilities include setting a strategic plan for clinician outreach, studies, and publications; overseeing the budget for clinician-led research and studies; identifying opportunities to expand MiraVista’s testing services; and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the clinical services team. Dr. Hanzlicek continues to lecture and serve as a locum clinician in veterinary programs across the country, and is a frequent speaker at continuing education events, including MiraVista’s own internal veterinary continuing education program.
