Test Code +
315
Clinical Significance +
The MVista® Coccidioides Quantitative EIA test aids in the diagnosis of coccidioidomycosis (especially in seronegative cases). Monitoring the Coccidioides antigen helps in some cases to determine when treatment can be stopped and to diagnose relapse.
Methodology +
- Quantitative Sandwich Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)
- Serum and CSF are pre-treated to improve accuracy
Limitations +
The result is not intended to be used as the sole means for clinical diagnosis or patient management decisions. Clinical sensitivity for diagnosis in dogs with pathology proven coccidioidomycosis is low (<40%); therefore, antibody testing is preferred for initial screening. Sputolysin, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide treatment degrade the analyte detected in the assay.
Cross Reactivity/False Positive:- Very High: Blastomyces, Histoplasma, Paracoccidioides and Talaromyces (talaromycosis, previously penicilliosis)
- Moderate: Coccidioides
- Rare: Aspergillus
- None: Cryptococcus
Turnaround Time +
Testing is performed Monday – Friday.
Results released: 24 – 48 hours
*New positives may require confirmation
Reference Range +
None detected
Interpretative Information +
Positive: 0.07 – 8.2 ng/mL
Positive Above the Limit of Quantification: Results greater than 8.2 ng/mL fall outside the linear range of the assay. These results are positive, but not accurately quantifiable.Additional Information +
