    Clinical Significance +

    The Aspergillus Antigen EIA test aids in the diagnosis of systemic aspergillosis in animals. This test has low sensitivity in dogs with sino-nasal aspergillosis; therefore, the test is not recommended for screening in those cases.

    Methodology +

    Platelia™ Aspergillus EIA immunoenzymatic sandwich microplate assay, cleared by the FDA for the detection of galactomannan in serum or BALF.

    Limitations +

    Cross Reactivity/False Positive:
    • Certain gluconate containing fluids (Vetivex pHLyte; NOT Plasmalyte or Norm-R)
    • Potentially penicillin antibiotics
    • High: Alternaria, Fusarium, Geotrichum, Paecilomyces
    • Low: Coccidioides, Cryptococcus, Blastomyces, Histoplasma

    Test Setup:  Monday – Friday
    Results released: 12 – 24 hours

    Specimen: Urine, Serum, CSF, BAL

    Anticoagulant: EDTA

    Container:
    Serum: Submit serum in a separator or transfer tube.
    Urine/CSF/BAL/Other Body Fluids: Submit urine, CSF, BAL or any other body fluids in a leak-proof container.

    Minimum Specimen Requirements +

    Volume: 0.4 mL

    Specimen Stability +

    • CSF:
      • Room temperature: 30 days
      • Refrigerated: 30 days
      • Frozen: 60 days
    • All other specimen:
      • Room temperature: 48 hours
      • Refrigerated: 5 days
      • Frozen: 5 months

    If specimen is too viscous to pipette.
